Clip in hair extensions are temporary, interchangeable hair extensions that you can "clip on" to your natural hair. The advantages of using clip in extensions as opposed to professionally applied hair extensions are that you can play around with different colours and looks without the need for professional application. Professionally applied hair extensions are semi-permanent - lasting for approximately three months - and as such cannot be interchanged with ease.

Looking after your clip-ins
Clip in extensions are washable
Due to the clip in extensions' high quality and durability you can wash and wear them to your hearts content. Keeping your hair extensions clean and well maintained is of course important and you can do this much the same as you would do with your normal hair.
However, whilst performing any cleaning or straightening on your extensions do not do so with them attached to your hair - your clip ons are attached to much less of your hair than are the professional ones so the hair is carrying more weight and could be damaged by additional strain.
The easy solution to this is to get a friend to hold them up as you wash or straighten your hair, do this just as you would with your normal hair using shampoo and conditioner, or if straightening a pair of straightening irons or blow drying whilst using a round brush.

Clip in extensions can also be cut and styled if you want, however it's advisable that you visit a professional hairdresser to cut your extensions for you.
A final tip for looking after your clip in extensions is to ensure you always take them out before you go to bed, the clips attached to your hair extensions are not designed to withstand the pulling and pushing that your hair goes through whilst you sleep and they can also be quite uncomfortable.
